Kids can make instruments at 2017 Summer Fun program

Old State House Museum - Monday, May 01, 2017

Want to learn how to make your own instruments? You can!

Just sign up for Summer Fun at the Old State House Museum and learn about the amazing musical instruments created by Arkansas artist Ed Stilley. Stilley has created more than 300 musical instruments during his life. Some of these amazing guitars, banjos, and violins are featured in the “True Faith, True Light” exhibit, currently on view at the Old State House Museum.

During this week-long program, students will:

  • Examine the instruments in the exhibit and see how Stilley developed his method of producing good quality sound through trial and error.
  • Learn about the different scientific elements that add to the quality of sound in stringed instruments.
  • Design and build their very own cigar box-style ukulele.
  • Enjoy a musical performance by Kelly and Donna Mulholland, also known as musical group Still on the Hill!
