Old State House Museum to host seminar on Reconstruction Aug. 5

The Old State House Museum, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, will host a seminar on Reconstruction in Arkansas on Aug. 5.

The seminar, entitled “A Confused and Confusing Affair: Arkansas and Reconstruction,” will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Old State House Museum and feature seven scholarly lectures. Scheduled speakers and topics include Carl Moneyhon, an overview of Reconstruction in the U.S.; Jay Barth, the political climate in Reconstruction Arkansas; Ken Barnes, political violence in Reconstruction Arkansas; Col. Damon Cluck, military operations and militia in Reconstruction Arkansas; Blake Wintory, African American legislators in Reconstruction Arkansas; Tom DeBlack, the Brooks-Baxter War; Rodney Waymon Harris, the rise of the Redeemers and post-Reconstruction politics.
