Join Us on an Adventure Through Time!

Old State House Museum - Thursday, June 27, 2019

We are looking forward to taking students on an adventure through time at this year's Summer Fun Youth Enrichment program! This year's program, called Camp Old State House, runs July 15 - 19 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day.

Last year, the kids loved making effigy pots with Daniel Cockrell, our adult education and living history coordinator, and they will get to make them again this year. As the kids explore the museum, they will have more fun activities and programs to teach them about the exhibits.

For example, on Tuesday, the kids will tour the "First Ladies of Arkansas: Women of Their Times" exhibit and then meet an actress in full costume portraying Mary Jane Conway, Arkansas's very first First Lady. They will also learn about the governors as they examine the governors' portraits and have a second "living history" session with an actor portraying Isaac Murphy, who served as governor of Arkansas during the later years of the Civil War and Reconstruction period.

On Wednesday, the topics will focus on different war memorials with activities and visitors representing the War of 1812, the Civil War and World War I.

On Thursday, the group will take a look at the "A Piece of My Soul: Quilts by Black Arkansans" and make their own quilt crafts with Amanda Colclasure, youth education coordinator.

Camp Old State House is geared toward kids who will be in third through ninth grades in the upcoming school year. The cost for the week is $75. To register, email

The deadline for registering is Thursday, July 11, so please don't miss this opportunity for your students to learn more about Arkansas heritage and history at Camp Old State House!
